About
South African Airways is the South African flag carrier airline which was founded in partnership with SA Express, SA Airlink and Mango. The airline has a fleet size of 44 and covers a network of 56 destinations around the world. The airline's parent company remains the largest South African state-owned enterprises. SAA became Star Alliance's member in 2006, which marked it to be the first African airline to join the alliance.
Alliance
Star Alliance was founded in May 1997, it is one of the world's largest global airline alliances. Headquartered in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, currently have 27 member airlines who have over 670 million passengers per year. South African Airways allows guests to earn and redeem miles across Star Alliance's carriers airlines. Passengers can access lounges depending on the type of flight ticket and frequent flyer status or class of travel.
Travel Class
South African Airways provides 2 travel classes:
Business Class: Passengers in the business class are provided with 2-2-2 seat configuration which is equipped with a welcome pack, a duvet and a full-size pillow along with a touchscreen monitor for inflight entertainment.
Economy Class: South African Airways' economy class provides all passengers with a comfortable seat with ample legroom. Economy guests are also provided with a blanket, full-size pillow, welcome pack and a touchscreen monitor
Frequent Flyer Program
Voyager is the frequent flyer program which allows members miles through flight booking through SAA and partner airlines. Members can exchange their miles for flight tickets, extra bagagge allowance, seat reservation, upgrades and booking changes. The flyer programme has five tiers which are upgraded when members fly on selected flights to allocate 'Tier Miles'. The 'Base Miles' can only be used to receive awards.
Baggage allowance
Business class passengers are allowed 2 bags of 32kgs each for checked-in luggage and 2 pieces hand luggage not more than 8kg each.
Economy class passengers are allowed 23kgs for checked-in luggage and hand luggage of 8kgs.

Check-in
Domestic Flights - Passengers can check-in online 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.
International Flights - Passengers can check-in online 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time.
In-Flight Services
South African Airways provides passengers with signature dishes prepared by South Africa's most sought-after chefs, the dishes are each carefully designed for Business class passengers. Economy cabin guests are served with delicious multi-course meals made from the best local products and are given complimentary beverage, meals and snacks. Special meals are to be prepared 48 hours prior to departure. Kosher meals are requested to be at least 72 hours prior to departure. Sawubona is the SAA award-winning in-flight magazine which provides insight on destinations, travelogues and recommendations about things to do and upcoming events.
Onboard support
South African Airways provides assistance for guests with special needs, Infants, expectant mothers, unaccompanied minors and any pre-departure arrangements. The Airport Customer Services units assist in check-in and departure procedures, receiving an unaccompanied minor, demonstration of seatbelt safety to children.
Refund and Cancellation
Passengers can cancel their booking either through South African Airways sales’ offices or website. All cancellations are subject to a cancellation fee.
